The Fox Valley Lacrosse Club is a non-profit 501c(3) organization that promotes youth lacrosse and junior lacrosse through travel and non-travel lacrosse programs reaching out to 2nd through 8th graders in the Naperville and Aurora, Illinois. Fox Valley plays both indoor and outdoor lacrosse fielding over 200 players across 12 teams.
How long has the Fox Valley Lacrosse Club been in existence? FVLC evolved from the Naperville Select Lacrosse Club established in 2007. In 2009 we started a 5th/6th grade team and in 2011 we added mulitple 3rd/4th, 5th/6th and 7th/8th “C” non-travel teams. What will my son gain from the program? We teach sound fundamentals through competitive, team-based lacrosse. This model ties in leadership, sportsmanship and helps build a players character as while improving his skills. Why Fox Valley instead of another club? We are about quality and not quantity. We are not tied to a facility or a specific group. We determine each year where the best most competitive place to play is and we select that opportunity. We are lucky to attract a diverse group of boys from all over the Chicago Suburbs who believe in themselves enough to try and earn a spot with our club. We keep the best players and everyone plays. We are not diluted by all the new club teams out there. Some of our players had College Lacrosse recruiting interest before they stepped on a High School field. Several of our alumni are being recruited to play Division I Lacrosse. School’s like Johns Hopkins, Syracuse, North Carolina , Duke, UMASS and Virginia (the list goes on) are actively recruiting or have signed these alumni. We have the largest and most experienced coaching staff of any youth lacrosse program in the Chicago area. We are an all volunteer organization dedicated solely to building the quality of local lacrosse play. Boys have the opportunity to play with True Lacrosse All-Star teams. Our season ends mid-June meaning that summers are free for family. As a non-profit, we are a low cost program. We offer a complete developmental path from 2nd through 8th. We are recognized as the premier club in Chicago with players traveling from the Northern and Southwest Suburbs, Indiana and Michigan to play FVLC. We compete in all seven IBLA divisions. What is expected of a player? The number one expectation is that the player is passionate about learning lacrosse. They demonstrate this through their attitude on and off the field, by attending every practice and being on time and ready to play for each practice. While everyone’s physical abilities might not be complete, we do expect every player to pay attention and play smart. Lacrosse should be your main spring sport for Travel Teams and can be complementary for Non-Travel Teams. Logistics How many players on a team? We target 18-22 players per team to allow for appropriate playing time. What is your season? Our season begins with practices in March and runs through mid-June When are practices? In March outdoor practices will be on Sunday afternoons at Benedictine University for Travel Teams. In April outdoor practices for all teams are on Wednesday and Fridays 6-8pm (5:30pm-7:30pm until day light savings time). All Teams practice on the same days and times in Naperville How many games do you play? We aim for 25 games in a season. Some teams play more, others less – the actual number depends on the competition available and tournaments.. Non-travel teams are scheduled to play 10-15 games in the IBLA. Do you travel throughout the country? No. Our focus is the Chicagoland area for league games and the Midwest for Travel Teams only. Opportunities are available for more advanced players to play in national level tournaments. (multiple players from Fox Valley play on National Travel teams). . Where do you play? We are a Chicago-based team and will travel to a few tournaments in the Midwest. Our home fields are in Naperville. We also have practices indoors at Players Indoor Sports Center and early Spring Practices at Benedictine for Travel Teams Costs Is it expensive? Compared to many other travel sports programs, and area lacrosse programs, the Fox Valley travel team is a bargain. Our season fee of $575 gets about 90 hours of lacrosse practices and training. This translates to less than $7 an hour which is extremely inexpensive compared with even “house” programs, let alone travel program. Non-travel team’s season fee is $295. This includes 2 practices a week and 12-15 games in the local area. What is included in your fees? Field Rental and Lining What about uniforms? Uniforms are included for all teams. Do you offer scholarships? Yes. For boys who have the talent and desire to play Fox Valley, but otherwise could not due to financial hardships, the club offers a limited number of scholarships. We handle this discretely with our Board. Please contact foxvalleylacrosseclub@foxvalleylax.com. Are there other fees that are collected? No. Although you are responsible for your own son’s transportation to all games and tournaments. Who can Play? Who can play Fox Valley Lacrosse? Boys who are successful with Fox Valley have either played lacrosse for at least a year or are strong athletes with hand eye coordination who can quickly pick up the sport. We have teams for 2rd-8th graders. My daughter wants to play lacrosse. Can she tryout? Women’s lacrosse has significantly different rules than men’s lacrosse --unlike sports like soccer, where the rules are identical between the men’s and women’s games. For example, the men’s game involves significant amounts of contact, while the women’s game has specific rules and techniques that minimize or eliminate contact. Playing men’s lacrosse would not help your daughter improve her skills at the women’s game. What if my son doesn’t make a Travel Team? While FVLC has the strongest Travel Teams in the State, FVLC has expanded it’s charter to include 2nd through 8th Grade Non-Travel Teams. FVLC is offering a level of play for all abilities. Additionally all teams play in the Illinois Boys Lacrosse Association (largest lacrosse league in Illinois) Also, if your son needs to improve his skills, we have open practices and tournaments during the off season. We invite anyone who wants to play with us to attend and participate in these. Fundraising Does FVLC have fundraising requirements for each player? There is no required amount of fundraising that is expected per player. We do ask our families to participate in our fundraising efforts to the best off their ability, as these efforts help the club reinvest in our athletes. How can I support Fox Valley Lacrosse? As a 501c(3) all donations are tax deductable and are very much appreciated. Please contact the board at foxvalleylacrosseclub@foxvalleylax.com
